Luang Prabang is in northern Laos, where the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers meet. It’s close to otherworldly natural scenery, waterfalls and caves. You’ll stumble across jewelled Buddhist temples and orange-robed monks every few feet. You can stay in a wooden villa with river views for cheaper than a dodgy hostel back home. Plus, the food is amazing. Choose between traditional Lao cuisine at the night market, French-style bakeries popping out fresh-baked baguettes and croissants, and trendy restaurants, coffee shops and bars.
